Residential Counselor (Merced)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Residential Counselor works as part of a multi-disciplinary team in providing supervision to adult residents. GLOM’s residential program includes both crisis stabilization and transitional housing services. The Residential Counselor provides services including but not limited to client supervision, transporting residents on outings, cleaning, cooking, crisis intervention, and medication management. The Residential Counselor also supports and assists individuals in developing independent living skills and in meeting rehabilitation goals. Residential Counselor must demonstrate an acceptable level of maturity, good judgment, and emotional stability. Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including some weekend and overnight shifts.

 

Job Type: Full Time / Part time

Pay: $22

Work Location: Merced Region

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with clients being served
  • Assist/Perform all areas of bed side care and first aid as needed
  • Maintain a clean and debris free workspace
  • Follow and uphold all GLOM and facility policies and procedures
  • Provide incoming shift staff with a detailed pass down relating to all issues/clients. 
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and treatment planning meetings as related to clients
  • Demonstrates knowledge of crisis management and intervention
  • Any and all other duties as assigned by your supervisor.  Essential job functions may be added to, deleted and/or changed at the discretion of management

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 1 year of mental health experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience with working with incarcerated individuals.
  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • College degree is preferred but not required. 
  • PPD test for tuberculosis and satisfactory results 
  • CPR/First Aid/BLS certification
  • Previous experience with population to be served and/or work in a similar program setting preferred  
  • One (1) year of experience preferred. Understanding of psychiatric illness and its treatment, and knowledge of psychotropic medication 
  • Able to read and write clearly and accurately 
  • Act as a team member providing input and reporting observations and concerns regarding client symptoms and symptom management
  • Demonstrate the ability to act a part of a team and in an appropriate manner in a crisis situation.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to walk or stand for long periods of time. 
  • Ability to travel and work in an office environment. 
  • Ability to climb stairs multiple times a day and be able to lift and/or carry 25 pounds or less.   
  • Ability to sit, rise, kneel, squat, twist, pull bend multiple times a day.   
  • Ability to perform with repetitive maneuvers and manual dexterity.
